The authority is proposed to build at least 15,000 flats with a dimension of 500 sqft each. The committee has been set up to identify lawful constructions in the layout to regularise them. Following the recommendations of the committee, the apex court has regularised 1,475 buildings that have come up in 17 villages from 2014 to 2018. The contractor, Santosh Patil, had on March 11 written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, stating, “I would have no other option but to commit suicide if bills and work orders are not released.” Patil had said that he had completed 108 road works worth Rs 4 crore in Hindalga panchayat limits in Belagavi after taking permission from Eshwarappa directly. Eventually the RDPR Department and , Eshwarappa’s associates refused to help him get the work orders or the bills paid, he had alleged. As the demand for his resignation grew, Eshwarappa refused to step down.
